How to Apply
Families must submit Part I, the Application Form online by December 15, 2012. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application.
Part II, Supporting Documents (teacher recommendation, school transcript, test results, etc.) do not need to be submitted with the application. The application itself is sufficient to begin the admission process. However, all supplementary materials must be received by the Admissions Office by January 15, 2013.
The application fee is $60.00 and can be paid online by credit card. If the application fee creates a financial hardship for your family, a limited number of waivers are available. Please call the Admissions Office to discuss the possibility of a fee waiver.
Student Interview and Tour
9th Grade Applicants: Upon receipt of Part I of the application, a member of the Admissions office will call to schedule an interview for the applicant with one of the admissions committee members. This interview is a required component of the application process. A personalized tour with a current SFS student will also be offered at this same time. These visits are during the school day between late September and the first of February. The earlier we receive the application form, the better we can accommodate your family's schedule.
10th and 11th Grade Applicants: Space for these grades is determined during the winter and is based on total enrollment of the Upper School and attrition. Tours and interviews will be scheduled if space is available.
Sidwell Friends School does not accept applications for 12th grade.
Open House (Optional)
The Sidwell Friends Middle and Upper School Open House is on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This is a chance for prospective families to meet administrators, faculty and coaches, as well as talk with current students and tour the campus. The program begins promptly at 9am. Click here to register.
Parent/Guardian Information Sessions for the Upper School (Optional)
Once we receive an application, we are able to provide a more personalized experience for our applicants. However, for parents and guardians who wish to learn more about our program prior to submitting an application, we invite you to an overview presentation of the Sidwell curriculum and programs on most Wednesdays throughout the fall. Click here to register.
Shadow Visits for Applicants (Optional)
We offer six shadow dates for 9th grade applicants who would like to observe classes in the Upper School. These spaces fill up quickly, so please call the Admissions Office to schedule. We must receive Part I before you can schedule these visits.
All accepted students will be invited to spend a day in the Upper School before the enrollment contract deadline.
All Upper School applicants need to take either the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) in October, November, December, or January.
The Sidwell Friends School code for the SSAT is 7366 and for the ISEE, it is 090200. Complete registration and fee information is contained on the SSAT and ISEE Web sites.
Two Teacher Evaluations are required. These confidential forms should be completed by your child’s current Math and English teachers and submitted directly to the Admissions Office by the teachers. These forms can now be completed online and emailed to SFS directly by the teachers.
Transcripts for the first grading period of the current school year and a completed report from the previous year are required for the applicant. It is the responsibility of the parent to request that these official records be sent to Sidwell Friends by submitting the Transcript Request Form to their child’s current school. The school will mail the transcript directly to us.
