Visiting the School before Applying
Information Sessions for parents will be held at various times during the fall for families interested in the 6th and 7th grades. During these sessions, Middle School administrators, teachers, and students will lead discussions on the academic and extracurricular programs in the Middle School. There will also be information on the admissions process. Please note that these sessions are optional and designed specifically for parents/guardians.
Your child is invited to attend the Middle School Open House on Saturday, November 1.
How to Apply
In order to be considered for admission, Sidwell Friends requires the following materials:
- Part I, the Application Form
- Student's School Visit and Interview
- SSAT or ISEE Testing (WISC-IV, WISC-V, SSAT, or ISEE if applying to fifth grade)
- Two Teacher Evaluations (English and Math)
- School Transcripts
- An Applicant Questionnaire for applicants to sixth through eighth grades
- Parent Statement
Families must submit Part I, the Application Form online by December 15, 2014. You
will receive an email confirming receipt of your application.
Please note: Part II, Supporting Documents (teacher evaluations, school transcript, test results, etc.) do not need to be submitted with the application. The application itself is sufficient to begin the admission process. However, all supplementary materials must be received by the Admissions Office by January 15, 2015.
There is a $60 fee to submit an application, which is paid by credit card when applying online. If the application fee creates a financial hardship for your family, please call the Admissions Office to discuss the possibility of a fee waiver.
Student's School Visit
Sixth and Seventh grade applicants: Applicants and their parents will be scheduled to visit the Middle School for a family interview. The visit will not be scheduled until we have received Part I, the Application Form. We cannot guarantee an interview if your child's application is not received by December 1, 2014.
All sixth and seventh grade students accepted to the Middle School will be invited to spend a half day shadowing a current student in March before the enrollment contract deadline.
Fifth and Eighth grade applicants: Spaces for fifth and eighth grades become available only through attrition of our current students. If you are interested in applying to fifth or eighth grade, please be aware that while we will accept applications for these grades, we will only be able to offer interviews to applicants if space becomes available. We will contact you in early spring if we are able to schedule an interview for your child.
Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grade applicants: Students need to take either the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) or Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) in October, November, December, or early January.
The Sidwell Friends School code for the SSAT is 7366 and for the ISEE is 090200. Complete registration and fee information is available on the SSAT and ISEE Web sites.
Fifth grade applicants: Students need to take the WISC-IV, WISC-V, SSAT, or the ISEE by January 15, 2015. Click here for a list of testers that administer the WISC test. Please note, however, that your child may be tested by any qualified tester.
Fifth through Eighth grade applicants: Two Teacher Evaluations are required. These confidential forms should be completed by your child’s current Math and English teachers and submitted directly to the Admissions Office by the teachers. The forms can be mailed or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org as an attachment. If the same faculty member teaches both of these subjects, please ask the child’s science or social studies teacher to submit the second evaluation.
Fifth through Eighth grade applicants: Transcripts for the first grading period of the current school year and a complete report from the previous year are required for the applicant. It is the responsibility of the parent to request that these official records be sent to Sidwell Friends by submitting the Transcript Request Form to their child’s current school. The school will mail the transcript directly to us.
Parent Statement and Applicant Questionnaire
These forms help us to learn more about your child and family. An Applicant Questionnaire is required for applicants to grades six through eight.
Out of Town Applicants
We look forward to working with families living in other areas of the United States and other countries and understand that your circumstances may present some challenges as you go through the admissions process. Please inform us of your intention to apply as soon as possible so that we can be of greatest help to your family.
As a day school, the School's policy requires that all students reside with a parent, stepparent, or legal guardian. We do not have a program for international students and do not issue I-20 visas.
