Hide Patty Carocci joined Sidwell Friends School as Director of Development in 2004 and brought with her over a decade in the fund-raising profession. She holds an undergraduate degree from Hood College and a Master's degree from Villanova University. Prior to joining the Sidwell community, Patty worked at the Pew Charitable Trusts, Vassar College, and the University of Pennsylvania. She was a fund-raising consultant for four years at Ketchum, Inc. where she helped non-profits across the country raise money for their organizations and was most recently the director of development at Catholic University. Patty is a board member of the Yellowstone Park Association.

Phoebe joined Sidwell Friends School in August 2007. She came to Washington, D.C., in 1997 to pursue a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Maryland. During her tenure in the city, Phoebe has had numerous internships and fellowships at the National Gallery of Art, has taught adjunct art history courses at area universities and colleges and worked for a local museum consulting firm doing strategic planning. She has an undergraduate degree from Smith College and a Master’s degree from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Phoebe also joins the Sidwell community as a faculty member and is teaching an art history course in the Upper School during the 2007-2008 academic year.

Hide Leigh joined Sidwell Friends as Campaign Coordinator in January 2008. While studying at the University of Michigan, she began her career in development working part-time in the Department of Urology Development Office, Uof M Hospital. After graduating with a degree in psychology and political science, Leigh moved to Washington to take a position with the Washington Hospital Center Foundation. As a former camp counselor and high school lacrosse coach, she is very excited to be back in a school environment.

Hide Sabra Chartand joined Sidwell Friends School as Editor of Alumni Magazine in 2005 after 20 years experience as a newspaper journalist and book author. Past publications include Black and White on Wall Street, Flying Blind, Flying Safe, and a regular column for The New York Times. She holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Washington in Seattle. Sabra and her husband, Joel Brinkley ’71, have two daughters.

Hide Director of Special Events, Lauren Galleher, joined Sidwell Friends School in August 2005. Prior to coming to SFS, Lauren worked in marketing for Envision, a company that runs leadership programs for high school and college students. While there, Lauren was part of the admissions team that enrolled students in leadership programs, and the marketing department that implemented an alumni community for past participants. In 2002, Lauren graduated cum laude from Elon University with a major in Human Services and Business Administration. An alumna of Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC, Lauren thoroughly enjoys working in the small independent school community.

Hide Leslie Hutchens joined Sidwell Friends School as Director of Annual Funds in 2005. She brings over ten years of experience to the Annual Funds. Prior to coming to Sidwell, Leslie was the Director of Annual Giving at the University of Richmond. While at the University of Richmond she worked with both the Annual Giving program and the Spider Athletic Fund. Leslie also has independent school experience. From 1996-1998 she ran the Annual Fund program at the Haverford School in Haverford, PA. Leslie began her development career in the Alumnae Affairs Office at her alma mater, Hollins College in Roanoke, VA.

Donna King joined the Sidwell Friends School Development Office in June 2005 as a Publications Associate bringing with her more than 14 years of publications management/ production experience. Prior to joining SFS, Donna served as program director for Creative Response to Conflict, a non-profit Quaker-based organization that provided training in non-violent conflict resolution to children and adults in the Washington Metropolitan area. She was also a marketing administrator at Iridium LLC, a satellite telecommunications company, where she was responsible for publishing two monthly newsletters, as well as Iridium’s sales and marketing handbook. Donna has a Bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Raised in a small suburb of Charleston, S.C., Sarah moved to central Virginia in 2001 where she attended and graduated from Mary Washington College. While earning her B.A. in English Literature, Sarah worked full-time in the activities department of a nursing home coordinating events for the most spunky octogenarians she ever met! After graduation, Sarah began pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and accepted a position as a Recreation Programmer at a county government organization before arriving at Sidwell Friends in March 2007. Excited for the opportunity to work at an institution with Sidwell’s values, Sarah is even happy to commute from Fredericksburg, Va., where she lives with her mother and two cats.

Hide Yvette King has been a member of the Sidwell Friends School Development team for 12 years. She began her career at the School in 1993, when she was hired as the assistant to the Director of Development. One year later, she was promoted to Director of Capital Gifts and Grants, a position she held for five years. Yvette left Sidwell Friends briefly to work for Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic and assisted the organization with its database conversion and development program. In 2000, she returned to SFS to assist the Development office with its database conversion and later became the School’s Director of Development Information Systems in 2002. Currently, in addition to managing the Development database and gift accounting, Yvette serves on the School’s Enterprise Systems and Website Design committees. Recently, in recognition of exemplary service to the School, she received Sidwell Friends Goldberg Award. Yvette earned a Bachelor’s degree in communications from American University in Washington, DC.

Hide Lauren Mossman joined Sidwell Friends as the Alumni Relations and Publications Assistant in 2003. In 2004 she became the Executive Assistant in the Head of School’s Office, where she worked for two years. Lauren graduated with Honors from the College of William and Mary, where she received a BA in English.

Samantha joined Sidwell Friends School in October 2007. As a graduate of a Jesuit prep school and university she is happy to be working at a Quaker school which shares similar values in education. Samantha graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in history and visual arts from Fordham University in May 2007. After graduation, she moved to Washington with her fiancé who is attending law school at GWU. Samantha says she feels "extremely fortunate to be working at Sidwell with such a wonderful group of people."

Madeline Stewart

Hide Madeline Stewart joined Sidwell Friends School as Alumni Relations Associate in 2005, and took on her current Annual Funds responsibilities in 2006. Before coming to SFS, Madeline served as a Teaching Fellow at Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio, where she helped launch Hawken’s Young Alumni program and Online Community. In 2003, she graduated summa cum laude from Kenyon College with a B.A. in Modern Languages and was inducted as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. While at Kenyon, she studied Italian and German, and spent a year abroad at the Università di Bologna in Bologna, Italy. An alumna of Hawken School and native of Cleveland, Ohio, Madeline also spent a semester at the Mountain School of Milton Academy in Vershire, VT. She serves on Hawken’s Alumni Association Board and the Mountain School’s Advisory Board.

Anna joined Sidwell Friends as the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations in October 2006. After graduating from Wake Forest University in 2005 with a BA in Communications and a minor in International Studies, Anna moved to the area and has greatly enjoyed life in D.C. Prior to coming to SFS, she worked in marketing for The Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C.

Hide Maria joined Sidwell Friends School in August 2006. She holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from Saint Michael’s College. Maria has over 12 years of experience in independent schools. She worked in admissions in New England boarding schools for 9 years including her alma mater, Lawrence Academy. In addition to admissions, she also taught ESL and directed the Lawrence Academy International Summer School. Most recently, Maria was the Director of Alumni Relations at the Potomac School in McLean, Virginia.

A long-time member of our community, Jancy Shetterly Tonken is a former Sidwell Friends parent and the wife of veteran English teacher Neal Tonken. Her son, J.D., graduated from Sidwell in 1996; two days later, Jancy and Neal were married. She is a graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, where she earned her B.A. in art education. After teaching art in Montgomery County Public Schools, Jancy worked for several years in the corporate world before coming to Sidwell in 1993. She enjoys playing the piano, hiking in the woods with her yellow lab, Chance, and sailing with her husband.
