  • Banner Weekend for Sidwell Athletics

    Posted November 2

Football, girls' varsity soccer and varsity volleyball took home Championship Banners all within the span of a single weekend.

Varsity volleyball beat St. Andrews 3-1, claiming the ISL A Division Banner for the second year in a row.

Girls' varsity soccer shut out GDS 2-0 in the ISL AA Tournament finals to capture a share of the 2014 ISL Banner (the Tournament winner shares with the regular season winner.)

Boys' varsity football toppled Flint Hill 58-45, ending the season with a 7-2 record (undefeated in league) and the MAC Championship. This is the seventh MAC championship for Sidwell football, the most for any school.

To top off the weekend, Boys Cross Country took the top spot at the DC state championships. Girls Cross Country finished a strong third.

Congratulations to all of the Sidwell athletes and coaches for such an outstanding showing!

In order to increase school spirit, and expose our LS & MS students to our stellar Varsity athletic program, the SFS Parents Athletics Association, in coordination with the Athletics Department, will be promoting a specific game for each varsity team during the sport seasons. During the fall, this will include a pre-game party in the Class of 1960 garden behind Zartman House about 30 minutes before each event – except golf and cross-country which are off campus, stay tuned for those party arrangements.

GAMETIME! featured events this fall are:
    Varsity Football – September 12, 4pm
    Girls Varsity Tennis – September 26, 4pm
    Boys Varsity Soccer – October 2, 4:30pm
    Girls Varsity Volleyball – October 10, 4:45pm
Varsity Golf – October 14, TBD
    Girls Varsity Soccer – October 15, 4:15pm
Girls Varsity Field Hockey – October 23, 4:15pm
    Girls/Boys Cross Country – October 25, 12pm

We encourage managers of LS teams, parents of aspiring athletes and all Sidwell fans to come out in your Quaker colors and cheer our varsity athletes on at the games. If you coach a team, consider making it a team outing & coupling it with a pizza party or treats — But whether you come with a team, your family or on your own, come support all of our wonderful Sidwell Teams!

Because we are an open campus, we ask that students from PK through 7th grade come with an adult. 8th graders are allowed to come to GAMETIME! events without adult supervision. Any LS and MS students found hanging out unsupervised in other locations will be sent to the security office.
