About the Archive
Composed of photos from the Thomas W. Sidwell era, this collection contains over 1100 black and white photographs, stereographs, and postcards from the School's inception until the death of Thomas W. Sidwell in 1936. The subject matter covers all aspects of School life: from athletics, clubs, and dramatics to fairs and commencement; from faculty and staff to classroom displays and buildings that have housed the school since 1883. Also included are several early student scrapbooks.
The images are organized broadly by category (e.g., Facilities, Activities), and then more narrowly within each category (e.g., Facilities - Eye Street Classrooms, Activities - Dramatic Productions).
Each image’s date, names of people (where known), subject matter, photographer (where known), size, condition (if damaged), and other pertinent or historical information has been collected.
This valuable historic resource would not be possible without the tireless efforts of parent volunteer Nancy Fetterman. Over the course of several years as Archives Assistant, she has scanned and cataloged all of the photographs in this collection. Her expertise in dating and processing historic photographs and her keen attention to detail have been invaluable.
