  • 125 Ways to Teach Thinking

    Lower School Multipurpose Room

    7 to 9 pm

    Parents are invited to learn more about the ways teachers are promoting thinking and developing minds. Children learn so much in school -- but the most important thing they learn is how to think.
    Thinking strategies are relevant regardless of the subject matter. This event will showcase math activities on all grade levels that nurture the development of children’s thinking skills. Come gain a better understanding of how we teach mathematics and leave with a clearer sense of how our children are learning to think-- not just in math --but in every area.

  • The Math Corner: Looking for things to do over the holiday?

    Worried you won’t have enough to do over the long Winter Break? Desperate for more math? Check out the Holiday problems and new Thanksgiving problems on the Math Adventures page of the Lower School website! For those of you unfamiliar with the website, from the Lower School page, there is a link for the Math Adventures page. Click on the Frog to link to the original Math Adventures website. There you will find a huge assortment of math problems, all of the Wednesday Morning Math materials, the Math Corners from all prior Thursday Letters, lists of math resources for parents, and great math related links. You can access the site directly at http://classic.sidwell.edu/LS_Math_Adventures/ Fourth graders have also been introduced to ThatQuiz.org. This site has a wide range of choices and levels for all kinds of math thinking. The link is on all three 4th grade class pages. Third graders may want to explore this site as well. Once you select your math topic, the menu on the left allows you to select the style, level, and type of problems you want within that topic. http://www.thatquiz.org/.
