Final Phase of Construction Underway

Posted: June 16, 2010

Within an hour of the graduation ceremony on Saturday, movers arrived on campus to empty the Kenworthy Gym in preparation for the renovation project. Early Monday morning, fences were set up around the perimeter of the courtyard in front of the Kogod Center for the Arts, and excavation crews moved in with their heavy equipment to tear up the courtyard and staircases. All the concrete will be crushed (creating CRC, or crushed recycled concrete) and used to build the base for the new, one-level courtyard that will be constructed when the building renovation is complete. Pervious brick pavers will be set on top of the CRC base, which will allow water to infiltrate rather than pool on the surface. The entire courtyard will be bordered by blue flagstone. Construction is expected to be completed in April 2011. Click on photo to view gallery.
