Posted: April 12, 2011

Of the 568 teams who participated in this year’s Moody’s Mega Math (M3) Challenge, two five-member Sidwell Friends teams were selected to receive Honorable Mention awards. Each team in the challenge submitted papers that were reviewed and evaluated by professional applied mathematicians, and only 43 papers were selected for recognition and cash prizes.

Honorable Mention awards are accompanied by $1,000 prizes to be applied to participants’ future college or university tuition. Each SFS team was comprised of juniors and seniors.

The teams spent 14 hours on Sunday, March 6, writing a paper on the impact of drought on Lake Powell in the Colorado River Basin. Get more information on the contest and problem.
