Posted: June 6, 2011

The Sidwell Friends varsity baseball team won the Congressional Bank Baseball Classic on Sunday, June 5, with two thrilling victories in front of a loyal contingent of fans at Nationals Park.

The Quakers beat the three-time Classic defending champion, St. Albans, on May 24, to earn the right to play in the Sunday morning private school championship.

On the big stage, Sidwell came up with clutch performances to win two close games. In the private school championship against Maret, Sidwell won 7-6 in a nail-biter, qualifying them for the evening’s final game. The team capped the day with a 5-3 victory against public school champion Wilson High School to win the Classic city championship.
