Sidwell Friends junior becomes third Quaker in the last four years to take the award.

Jordyn Jackson ’26 has been named the 2024-25 Gatorade District of Columbia Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The award, recognized as the top individual honor in high school sports, is presented annually to top athletes in each of a dozen sports in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states. It celebrates athletic accomplishment, academic achievement, and contribution to the community.

Jackson averaged 19.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game during her junior season while helping the Quakers to a 27-3 record. The team finished at the top of the Independent School League (ISL) regular-season standings and won the ISL tournament championship with a 67-62 win over Bullis.

The Quakers then went on to capture the DCSAA Class AA Girls Basketball Championship on March 2 with a  72-44 win over St. John’s. Jackson led the Quakers with 27 points in the game and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Jackson is the fifth Sidwell Friends basketball player to win the Gatorade District of Columbia Girls Basketball Player of the Year honor, joining Jaydn Donovan (2022-23), Kiki Rice (2021-22), Taylor Hilton (2008-09) and Paula McNamee (1992-93). Last year, Acaden Lewis won the boys basketball award. Across all sports, 28 Sidwell Friends athletes have won the award since 1987.
