Sidwell Friends tennis coach honored in Hawaii following historic 2024-25 boys’ and girls’ seasons with DCSAA and conference championships.

The Racquet Sports Professionals Association (RSPA) has awarded the 2025 Laurie Martin High School Coach of the Year Award to Logan West ‘01, head coach of the Sidwell Friends boys’ and girls’ varsity tennis teams. West received the award at the association’s annual conference on September 23 in Kona, Hawaii.

“This distinguished honor recognizes those who have gone above and beyond in leadership, achievement, and impact in high school tennis coaching,” the RSPA said in announcing the award, which is named for the late Laurie Martin, a legendary tennis coach at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, Arizona. “[Coach West’s] commitment to excellence and athlete development has made a lasting impression on the Sidwell Friends community and the broader high school tennis landscape.”

Last year, West’s boys’ and girls’ tennis teams both won state DCSAA championships after capturing their respective Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC) and Independent School League (ISL) team titles. In all, since becoming head coach at Sidwell Friends in 2016, West’s teams have won 10 DCSAA championships (4 boys, 6 girls) and 11 conference titles (6 boys, 5 girls).

“I‘m honored and extremely grateful to receive this recognition from the RSPA,” says West. “I owe this award to the outstanding support of our coaching staff–Shelby Jones, John Dillon and Eric Singletary–the athletic department led by Michael Square, our supportive administration, and, most importantly, the dedication of the student athletes whom we serve each day. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to help our student athletes develop confidence, resilience, and the poise to perform under pressure on and off the tennis court.”
