New School Year, Awesome School Picnic
Who can resist an all-School event with good food, good company, and good games?
Last Friday, the Sidwell Friends community came together under sunny skies for its annual Back-to-School Picnic. The team at Meriwether Godsey pulled together classic picnic fare, like pasta salad and chicken wings, in the cafeteria, while outside “dirt cake” was offered in tiny yellow hard hats with shovel spoons in celebration of breaking ground on the new Upper School on Upton Street. Tables with stickers, games, crafts, and party favors filled the quads, and a pop-up exhibit of Sidwell Friends Magazine covers lined Kogod Arts Center. Lower Schoolers who came to the DC campus for all the fun were rewarded with a bouncy slide, bubble machine, and visit from Star Fox. Meanwhile, Upper School sports was on full display with girls’ volleyball, boys’ soccer, and the football team all hosting home games—including an impressive 27-0 win over Bladensburg on the gridiron.
