Connect with a Sidwell graduate!
We understand that learning about and researching colleges can be challenging during this time of COVID-19 especially when you cannot visit the campus or meet with the students. The College Office is excited to partner with the SFS Office of Alumni Engagement to provide you with an opportunity to connect with a Sidwell graduate who attends or recently graduated from a college or university you are interested in. Please feel free to complete the following form to connect with a Sidwell alum!
Senior summer to do’s
At this point in the summer, you are progressing in your college search in two phases - the pre-application phase and application phase.
Listed below are some items you can be working on during the next two months. Again, please feel free to “meet” with your college counselor to receive additional college counseling support and guidance.
Sign up for virtual college interviews at colleges of interest. Interviewing tips can be found here. Remember that your college counselor is available to help you prepare for any interviews.
Continue to research colleges virtually. Register for and attend online information sessions and tours. Tufts University offers tips for virtual college visits. Remember, you are also welcome to to connect with a Sidwell graduate who attends or recently graduated from any colleges of interest.
Continue to shape and finalize your college list. Utilize college search engines and your college counselor for assistance.
Register and prepare for any upcoming SAT or ACT exams. If you find that the SAT or ACT which you registered for is canceled, we suggest registering for the next available testing date. Updates can be found here for SAT and ACT. Additionally, here is a link to a current listing of test optional colleges/universities.
Investigate college affordability. If you are curious as to what your financial expectation may be, look to each institution’s net price calculator. Using estimated financial data, this tool can provide you with an estimated expected family contribution.
Create a Common Application account and begin to fill in the basic data. Remember that the 2020-2021 version will go live on August 1. If you create an account and enter in just data (not your essay) - that information will carry over when the updates occur on August 1. Tips for completing the Common App can be found here.
Begin/continue drafting your college essay. The prompts for the Common App can be found here. If you need help brainstorming possible essays topics or want another set of eyes to look it over - reach out to your college counselor for assistance. Connecticut College offers some essay tips and sample essays that worked.
Lastly, refer to your summer college counseling report (emailed to you June 12) for additional feedback, reminders and resources.
We wish you all a great weekend ahead. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
