Fall sports have come to an end, and our Sidwell Friends athletes enjoyed many on-the-field successes.

Boys’ cross country rose to the occasion and ran their best race of the season to win their fifth consecutive Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC) Championship. Sidwell runners pulled away from the competition to secure the victory by a margin of 19 points. Sidwell took the top two places, and four runners earned All-MAC honors. Three of the top five runners improved their previous best times by 27, 34, and 39 seconds. Girls’ cross country had five seniors on the team and looks to build for 2020 as 11 members return next fall.

Field hockey ended the year at 10-7-1, the best record since the 2009/2010 school year. The team, which had eight seniors, had signature ISL wins over Bullis, Madeira, Flint Hill, and Episcopal.

Football started the season with a big win, but after sustaining some injuries to key players in the second game of the season, finished 1-8. The younger players really stepped up, played a lot of football, and will be the nucleus for the team next season.

Golf competed hard all season with four members going 5-1 in regular season league play while finishing third in the MAC tournament. Golf had one member named to the All-Conference team this year. 

Boys’ soccer won the MAC regular season title and was runner-up in the MAC Tournament and a DCSAA finalist. Signature wins include Maret, Potomac, and St. John’s. Boys’ soccer finished 17-3-2.

Girls’ tennis captured both the ISL AA division and tournament titles for the first time since 2001. Signature wins include Holton-Arms, Bullis, St. John’s and Potomac. The team finished with an impressive record of 20-1.

Volleyball finished the season 13-13 overall in the competitive ISL AA division. After upsetting the second-ranked Holton-Arms, they competed in the ISL Championship semi-finals.

Girls’ soccer finished the season 16-2-1 while winning the ISL Tournament for the second consecutive season and reaching the final of the DCSAA championship for the third straight season. The team garnered the top spot in the Washington Post’s area rankings, and five members garnered all-league recognition. The team will be returning nine starters for next season.
