I wanted to be a lawyer from an early age, but a trip to Poland with the Sidwell Friends School Chamber Chorus in the summer of 1980 began a drift away from that plan. It inspired me to study Russian in college, which led to another summer program abroad in 1984. During that trip, I met journalists based in Moscow, and decided I would like to return to work alongside them after graduation. Despite not making it back there, I did end up in news, moving to New York City and spending 5 years at The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour. I transitioned away from documentaries and have had a long career in production, working on one-off films, series, and museum installations. In my volunteer roles, I ran a large community-based non-profit for more than 10 years and served as the Administrator of a small political advocacy organization. Brooklyn. ASYO is a small youth soccer league with several thousand players and an annual budget of more than $400,000. As Regional Commissioner, I led a Board of more than 15 members, all in a volunteer capacity. For 3 years, I handled all the administrative and financial duties for CTC Together. This includes managing FEC Compliance, payroll, accounts payable, and other tasks. There was no one doing this when I came on, so I created systems and managed them. I am looking forward to working with everyone on the FAN-AB!

I attended Sidwell Friends my junior and senior years in high school from 1967 to 1969, being admitted thanks to Robert Smith. Since late 2016 I've worked as a private tutor serving students with dyslexia, after 20 + years teaching English as a Second Language with the Atlanta Public Schools. I sorely miss my Latino students, but the bureaucracy of the school system frustrated me. In recent years, I've devoted significant volunteer time to my church community to build our racism awareness, and serve on the Outreach and Social Justice Committee. The new, highly trained African American rector at my church has inspired me to do what I can to fight the social and educational inequities caused by racism, and I think Sidwell Friends is a good place to make a contribution. I'm inspired to serve the Sidwell community by the increasing diversity of the student body and administrators and the expanded educational experiences offered to students. I have also gained a lot from the alumni learning opportunities during covid. I live in Decatur, Georgia outside Atlanta. During covid I've tried to keep fit with swimming and bike riding with friends once a week, but I'd love to be having more fun!

When I graduated from Sidwell in 1975 (I'd arrived in 6th grade, '68-'69), I wanted to be a preschool teacher, thanks to a student-teaching internship with Peggy Luthringer in the Lower School. Early in my time at Harvard, however, I met a creator of "Sesame Street" and shifted my focus to teaching via TV. I've ended up in a unique role as a strategist, analyst, author, speaker and connector, leading the children’s media industry in developing sustainable, child-friendly practices. For 25 years, I ran the American Center for Children and Media, and now I am SVP of Global Trends for Dubit, a strategy/research consultancy and digital studio focused on kids and youth. Post-COVID, I'm eager to return to my worldwide travels, seeking out best practices in children’s entertainment and learning. Sidwell sparked my passion for child development and early learning, so I've been very happy to return and support the school. I've led the Chicago and New York alumni clubs, spoken and organized for "Let Your Life Speak," and now serve on the FAN-AB. In 2020, I married Betsy Zeidman '74 after re-meeting at a Sidwell event in Brooklyn. We live in Chevy Chase. I have two grown children, both also involved in early child development.
