Sidwell Friends

Janessa Pope is the head coach of the varsity field hockey program at Sidwell Friends School. She will also serve as the 5/6 and a 7/8 coach. Pope holds a bachelor's and master's from the University of Maryland in Speech-Language Pathology. She won two ACC and two NCAA championships at UMD with the field hockey team. Coach Pope was a team captain her senior year and continued as their director of operations for several years upon graduating. She has worked with the USA field hockey Futures program, and Coach Pope is actively engaged in growing the field hockey community. She is a director of the non-profit Stepping into Field Hockey which holds the program's mission to increase inclusion and diversity within the sport of field hockey by providing access to clinics and training within new communities.
