MOVERS & QUAKERS HONORS AND RECOGNIZES THE GENEROSITY OF YOUNG ALUMNI
AS EMERGING PHILANTHROPIC LEADERS INVESTED IN SIDWELL FRIENDS.

Movers & Quakers recognizes and honors young alumni in their first five to twenty years since graduation from Sidwell Friends as emerging philanthropic leaders. By supporting the School’s highest priorities, including student financial aid, faculty professional development, and engaging student experiences, Movers & Quakers have a significant impact on the School’s ability to shape the future of Quaker education. The group also comes together for special networking and social events.

For alumni, there is no better way to show support for the School than through philanthropy, especially through contributions to The Sidwell Friends Fund. This will ensure that students receive the educational experience we all value in an institution that reflects the diverse experiences and perspectives of our nation’s capital and its neighboring communities. Join in and inspire the next generation of thoughtful leaders!

MOVERS & QUAKERS LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE

“Young alumni giving is a crucial component—both for the near- and long-term success of the School. By contributing in this way alumni can stay involved and participate, building a level of engagement that hopefully continues long after graduation.”

In a virtuoso solo performance, Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck, Lincoln, Nomadland) portrays Jan Karski in this genre-defying true story of a reluctant World War II hero and Holocaust witness. After surviving the devastation of the Blitzkrieg, Karski swears allegiance to the Polish Underground and risks his life to carry the first eyewitness reports of war-torn Poland to the Western world and, ultimately, the Oval Office. Strathairn captures the complexity and legacy of this self-described "insignificant, little man" whose timely story of moral courage and individual responsibility can still shake the conscience of the world. Come for a discussion with Derek Goldman, Ijeoma Njaka, and Emma Jaster '03, moderated by Bryan Garman, followed by a screening of Remember This. Please register here if you plan to attend.

"Sidwell is my #1 philanthropic priority because, nearly two decades after graduating, what I learned there, and the friends I made, both remain integral to who I am. One small way I can give back is by supporting SFS as a leadership donor; another is giving my time in service to the School as a volunteer, which is perhaps the greatest joy, as it brings me into contact with so many friends with so many different experiences at, and connections to, this incredible place."
