Retired and Former Employees

Welcome, retired and former faculty and staff!

We hope you will keep in touch online and return to campus for events and volunteer opportunities.

2021 RETIREE TRIBUTES

A Tribute to Steve Thompson
by Kate Lindsey

Chief Steve Thompson arrived at Sidwell Friends School nearly 28 years ago - a critical time in the school’s history.

A Tribute to Claudine Macé
by Leigh Gilman and Mamadou Guèye

Claudine’s many French students over the years recognize what we all see in her—a teacher fiercely dedicated to her craft and to the intellectual and social development of her students.

A Tribute to Carlos Castellanos
by Carol Borut

Carlos Castellanos has been a dedicated member of Sidwell’s Building and Grounds crew for 43 years. He made many friends across the Sidwell community during his long tenure caring for the school’s gardens and grounds and keeping its buildings in working order on both campuses.

A Tribute to Anne Charny
by Rick Honn

During her twenty years of service to the school, Anne was a model of intellectual integrity and energy for her students and her colleagues.

A Tribute to Barbara Davison
By Zarya Navarro

I was fortunate to have Barbara as my upstairs LS neighbor. Above our raucous KX classroom, Barbara worked her magic with the fourth graders. Throughout the day, she would lead her happy class up and down the nearby staircase, always poking her head in to say hello.

A Tribute to Richard Lesczynski
By Rebeckah Iseman and Adrian Sotela

As a master teacher, Mr. L. had a profound impact on his students, many of whom have often expressed how much they enjoyed hearing his stories and how much they cherish the wisdom he has shared with them.

A Tribute to Melanie Fields
By Tom Donley

Melanie Fields, an icon of our science department for 34 years, will be retiring at the end of this year. There is no greater testament to Melanie than to hear from the alums, stretching back decades, who had her as a teacher and whose lives were forever changed.

A Tribute to Mary K. Carrasco
By Aaron Brophy

For the past decade Mary Carrasco has been quietly and thoughtfully shepherding Sidwell Friends School. Her daily efforts may go unnoticed by most students and teachers, but Mary’s discerning sense of continuing revelation has benefitted all of us.
