Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness that I share that former Sidwell Friends faculty member Margaret "Peggy" Kane died on July 7, 2024, at her continuing care community in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was 90 years old. Please join me in holding her family in the Light.

Peggy taught 7th and 8th grades at Sidwell Friends from 1980 - 2000. She was devoted to teaching, helping and caring for her students, friends and family members. She saw potential in each of her students and she worked diligently to unlock that potential. She challenged her charges and made every effort to broaden the experiences and outlook of her students. 

Shortly after her retirement, she worked with colleague Ele Carpenter to establish the Retired and Former Faculty & Staff group. This effort to honor and maintain connection with fellow colleagues and former staff created the roots for strong relationships between the School and former employees that remain today. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26 at the Riderwood Chapel in Riderwood Village (3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, Maryland). Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery (13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peggy’s name to Doctors Without Borders.
