As the senior executive assistant to Upper School Principal Mamadou Guèye from 2015-2021, Brittany Chase was a pillar in the Sidwell Friends community who supported and welcomed students, faculty, staff, and families. Through her service to the Black Student Union (BSU) and her leadership as the founding advisor of the Black Girls Society, she made a distinct and lasting contribution to the School’s culture of inclusivity and equity. 

To honor Brittany, who died on January 30, 2021, parents and students have come together to establish the Brittany Chase Memorial Fund.

This endowment will provide an enduring commitment to the hallmark of Brittany’s leadership, ensuring that all Sidwell students—especially Black students—are valued, respected, and honored. Each year, a committee of students, parents, and faculty will designate funds towards activities that best promote a culture of inclusivity and respect. These include: 

• A speaker series that will inspire students and the broader Sidwell Friends community to take action towards racial equity, anti-bias, inclusion, and anti-racism; and  
• Support for the BSU and Black Girls Society, including on-campus or off-campus educational activities aligned with the mission and purpose of these programs.  

A plaque with Brittany’s portrait and student testimonials will also be placed in the foyer of the Upper School to welcome students and visitors.
